Salary: $13 - $15 per hour
Job Type: Full-Time
Hours: Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:30pm with a 30-minute break
Number of Hires: 1 position
Projected Start date: Immediate

Baylake Academy is a new private preschool for students 16 months to kindergarten located in the Chesapeake Bay area of Virginia Beach. Baylake Academy provides a leading educational environment with an interactive curriculum promoting independent thinkers. Along with nine playful modern classrooms, Baylake Academy hosts a library for mind exploration, state of the art computer room, and a science room where our children can experiment and experience discovery.
Our multi-use gymnasium offers a massive space equipped with a stage to host school events in addition to the physical fitness program designed by our personal trainer. Our outside activities take place in designated age-group specific areas along with playground equipment and sports play areas.
Our Food & Nutrition Program is a well-balanced snack program that engages the children while promoting healthy eating habits.

Position Summary:
·      The School Coordinator assists in all classrooms where needed throughout the school. This includes but is not limited to lesson plan and activity implementation, filling-in if a teacher is out sick, answering walking talkie code calls, snack inventory, preparation, and distribution, as well as extended day leader from 3:00pm-5:30pm.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Certifications required
All candidates who wish to be considered for the position must meet the following criteria in addition to any/all requirements that may be mandated by the state and/or local licensing authorities:
·      A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or Child Development, or working towards the degree, or 1 year of experience working with children in a licensed facility focused on the education of children
·      Patience, passion, multi-tasking (organizational) skills, time management skills, and strong professional communication skills (both oral and written)
·      Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
·      Proficient in Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
·      Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
·      Ability to work well with students with various learning needs
·      Friendly and nurturing disposition
·      Knowledge of basic childcare principles
·      Must be able to work year-round (Monday – Friday)
·      The following are a plus:
o  Bilingual (Spanish/English) abilities
o  Working knowledge of the STEAM approach
o  Working knowledge of integrated learning approaches (e.g., individualized, and differentiated learning)
o  Working knowledge of phenomenon and problem-based learning
Duties and responsibilities
Curriculum Preparation and Execution:
·      Utilize our Resource Library to research, plan, and develop age-appropriate activities
·      Help Lead Teacher prepare activities that support lesson plans
·      Implementing the Teacher’s lesson plans and maintaining daily classroom schedules
Interact with Children:
·      Utilize appropriate language, interactions, and positive discipline
·      Model positive behavior
·      Assist in instructing and supervising children in classroom assignment and activities or difficult concepts
·      Execute age-appropriate activities that support the approved lesson plan
·      Continuously monitor children to always ensure safety, and report child abuse and neglect when necessary
·      Guide students through interactive lessons, using the lead teacher’s approved teaching styles to reinforce essential information. 
·      Provide opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the developmental levels of the student.
Assess Children:
·      Take pictures and maintain anecdotal notes, written observations, and other approved forms of documentation for each child
Communicate with Parents:
·      Maintain communication with the lead teacher to help resolve issues or concerns that are raised by the parents
Additional Duties:
·      Ensure classroom materials are available, in good repair, and used efficiently. This involves checking regularly to ensure that supplies are available and informing the Lead Teacher when supplies are needed
·      Participate actively in staff required meetings, training sessions, and school visits by prospective parents as necessary

4.      Describe a situation where you had to think out of the box to ensure students from 16 months through Kindergarten understood the lesson. Explain how you used your resources and how you obtained the necessary knowledge to make this happen.
5.      The following scenario requires a plan that deals with children interaction; please describe the steps you would take: two students get into an altercation, and the behavior is progressively worsening; you need to address how you would handle it.
6.      Please explain how you would address a disagreement with the Lead Teacher. How would you diffuse the situation and improve your relationship?
