Job Description

The MOHS Histotechnologist, Dermatology, is responsible for all technical and functional aspects of the Dermatology Department Cryostat Laboratory. Works independently to perform routine and specialized histohraphic and mircotechnical procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Orients, processes and prepares sections of skin intraoperatively during MOHS micrographic surgery procedures.
  • Instructs residents, fellows, students and technicians in any or all techniques needed.
  • Oversees technicians and performs quality assurance when they are doing histology-related work. Independently creates, organizes and maintains text, photo and slide files.
  • Independently does library research to modify or develop techniques as needed, or to assist in research or teaching projects.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology or Medical Technology required.
  • 1-3 years tissue-cutting experience.
  • Previous experience in using the Microtome, and/or classroom preparation in Micro-Techniques.
  • Ability to function independently and to interact well with surgeons, O.R. staff and other departments. Ability to teach and oversee the work of technicians.
  • Analytical ability to understand and solve technical problems as they arise, to develop new techniques as necessary, and to organize information effectively in manual and computerized files.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and visual acuity.
