Parks & Recreation/Facilities Director

The City of Bryan is currently seeking qualified candidates for Parks & Recreation/Facilities Director. Under direction from the Deputy City Manager, the Parks & Recreation/Facilities Director plans, directs, coordinates, manages, and leads an effective and efficient Parks & Recreation and Facility Services Department by being creative and fiscally responsible in providing services, programs, activities, and amenities that enhance citizens' quality of life; offers sound advice and quality recommendations to management, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and the City Council; and understands and embraces policy direction in an effort to continually improve COB facilities and maintenance operations, parks, and recreational and community activities in Bryan.

Hiring Range:
$115,000 - $135,000/year (depending on qualifications)

Minimum Requirements:
The most qualified and best person to fulfill this role will be a person of integrity; an individual who is community-oriented and of contemporary thinking; and an individual who possesses knowledge and skills in budgeting, communication, diversity, and empowerment; expertise in the principles and practices of public recreation administration, grounds maintenance, and the ability to provide responsible management for a broad program of community recreation for citizens of Bryan, maintaining fiscal responsibility and community needs as a priority. A Master's degree, with major coursework in Parks & Recreation, Physical Education, Horticulture, Public Administration, Construction Science, Facilities Management, Architecture, Business or similar field of study plus eight (8) years of directly related experience; OR a Bachelor's degree (with coursework as listed above) plus ten (10) years of directly related experience required. Previous leadership, supervisory, or management experience is also required.

The City of Bryan is located in Brazos County, Texas, and is situated in the center of a triangular area of Texas defined by Houston, Austin/San Antonio, and Dallas/Fort Worth. Bryan is home to approximately 90,400 citizens. Incorporated in 1871, Bryan is a home-rule city functioning under the Council-Manager system. The City Council is comprised of seven members, including the Mayor. The City of Bryan employs approximately 937 full-time employees, counting the Parks & Recreation Department’s 40 employees. As part of Aggieland, Bryan contains parts of Texas A&M University and one of the State’s larger community colleges, Blinn College.
