Principal, Fairfax High School

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), the nation’s 11th largest school district, located in the Washington, D.C. region, is seeking an experienced school leader to serve as principal of Fairfax High School.
 
Fairfax High School is in a unique situation within Northern Virginia as it is located in the City of Fairfax, an independent city of the Virginia Commonwealth, and surrounded by Fairfax County. Fairfax High School benefits from having a small town/city feel within a large community. With an enrollment of approximately 2300 students, Fairfax serves a diverse student body that is approximately 23 % Asian, 9 % Black, 25 % Hispanic, 36% White and 6% other.
 
Fairfax High School students access a number of innovative programs, including Advanced Placement (AP), Special Education, Honors, and the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Program. It also houses Fairfax Academy for Communications & the Arts, offering outstanding opportunities for FCPS high school students with career interests in fine & performing arts, design, and communications. Additionally, advanced career elective courses, in eleven academic areas, incorporate the latest industry technology and instructional techniques. Four additional classes, in the language fields of American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese and Korean, provide accelerated language instruction to students as well.
 
The principal of Fairfax will work closely with all principals in the highly collaborative Fairfax pyramid of schools, to build upon the strong sense of community, pride, and school spirit that has been fostered over the years with the community and student body motto of “We are Fairfax”. To accomplish this, the principal at Fairfax High School will have the support and resources from both the City of Fairfax and FCPS. The principal will be expected to work with, and report to, both school boards and division staff throughout the year. The principal will direct and be accountable for the planning, assessment, instructional leadership, communication, community relations, safety and administrative management required to manage the instructional and special programs, organization, and facilities of Fairfax High School.
 
Qualifications: Postgraduate Professional License with endorsements in administration and supervision preK-12, plus seven years of progressively more responsible experience in teaching and administration or supervision, some at the high school level, with a minimum of three years administrative experience. A regionally competitive salary and benefit package will be offered.
