Transitional Student Liason

Summary: The Transitional Student Liaison is responsible for supporting the needs of the displaced (homeless), unaccompanied youth, foster and migrant student population and ensuring the delivery of mandated services to facilitate the student’s attendance and access to appropriate education. Position assesses students and families; interprets laws relating to displaced, foster, and migrant students; works as a team member to develop intervention strategies; provides case management; monitors student progress; and makes referrals. Position also acts as a resource to school staff and conducts related training.
 
Essential Functions:   The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position.   • Interprets laws relating to displaced, foster, and migrant students; and ensures the delivery of mandated services
  • Assesses students identified as displaced and makes visits to living areas/shelters to assess the family environment
  • Collaborates with school staff to develop interventions for students identified as displaced and develops individualized service plans
  • Implements case management services (including individual counseling); monitors student/family progress and status; and makes referrals to other professional staff members or community agencies as needed
  • Serves as a liaison between schools and such agencies/facilities as displaced shelters, social services, court services, and the police department to coordinate assistance for displaced students
  • Provides families with information related to the needs of their child and acts as a resource to parents/guardians by providing family support activities and communicating available services
  • Acts as a resource to school-based administrators, guidance counselors, teachers, and health services personnel regarding displaced students, interpretation of displaced/school attendance policies and laws, and record-keeping requirements
  • Conducts training to school staff on school laws as it relates to the displaced student population; and recommends strategies for supporting the needs of these students.
  • Maintains necessary records ensuring confidentiality of students and their families and prepares related reports
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities
  • Collaborate and coordinates displaced education services with the Regional GADOE Program Specialists through regular communication, data sharing and attendance at regional meetings
  • Complete and submit the Homeless District Self-Assessment with the Grant Coordinator’s assistance
 
  • Cross functional duties may include assisting with Test Monitoring and assisting with Records & Enrollment processes
 
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Required Qualifications:   
  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, education, or a related field AND
  • Two (2) years of related experience providing support services for school aged children OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
 
  • Certificates and Licenses:GA PSC Educational Teaching Certificate
  • desired Licensed Social Worker – LMSW
  • Clear Fingerprint/Background Check Required.
 
  • OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with diverse student populations
 
  • Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, OneNote, and G-Suite.
 
  • Knowledge of the Georgia Performance Standards and GADOE Implementation Manual
  • Knowledge of the SCSC Comprehensive Performance Framework
  • Knowledge of GaDOE CCRPI
  • Proficiency using computer-based software and online resources to develop training materials
  • Ability to read and interpret student academic data and educational reports
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
  • Ability to manage competing priorities with attention to deadlines
  • Strong critical thinking, planning, and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaborate and communicate effectively within a team
  • Ability to manage multiple projects within established deadlines

  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Licensed Social Worker - LMSW
 
  • TKES/LKES credentialed
 
  • Previous experience as an online educator
  • Previous experience with online educational tools/curriculum/assessments
  • Working knowledge of Infinite Campus (SIS)
  • Working knowledge of Canvas (LMS)
  • Working knowledge of Jigsaw Interactive (live classroom tool)
  • Proficient in use of Zoom conferencing tool
  • Bi-lingual
 
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • This is primarily a Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, 5 days/week, home-based position that may require traveling up to 20% of the time.
 
  • During critical periods, in-office days may be required. The noise level in the office is usually moderate (computers, printers, light foot traffic).
 
  • In-person attendance at professional development, training, conferences, job fairs, meetings, school events, marketing events, and testing sites will be required several times per year.
  • Light lifting required.
