Feeding Therapist


Job Listing for Outpatient Speech Language Pathology Feeding Therapist, Staff Position

- Lanham and Rockville Location -

Full time staff position will support the expansion of the Feeding and Swallowing Program to our Maryland outpatient locations. The SLP will join a multidisciplinary team that includes behavioral psychology, occupational therapy and nutrition focused on assessing and treating children with a variety of disorders affecting oral motor, swallowing and feeding skills. The SLP will participate in multidisciplinary and individual evaluations and provide a full range of individual and group diagnostic and rehabilitative services. He/she will comply with documentation and other facility requirements in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and company policies. The SLP will demonstrate effective time management, flexibility and ability to problem solve while providing high-level, evidence-based quality of care. Due to extensive training required, a 2-year commitment to the program is required.

Responsibilities

Participate in the care of infants, children and adolescents, birth to 22 years of age, within scope of practice and established standards for speech-language pathology.

Demonstrate essential skill competency in the area of dysphagia using evidence based assessment methods, treatment modalities, equipment and protocols.

Select appropriate evaluation tools based on child’s age, diagnosis, physical and emotional status and implement care plans focusing on remediation of and/or diminishing functional impact of identified feeding and swallowing conditions.

Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, their family and other caregivers, outside providers, supervisor and team members.

Adhere to documentation guidelines regarding timeframe, form and content of written evaluations, progress notes and discharge reports consistent with company policy and regulatory bodies (e.g. The Joint Commission, Department of Health, CARF and ASHA).

Assist program manager with development and growth of program or its functions as it relates to speech-language pathology.

Participate in multidisciplinary activities related to patient care and professional training.

Participate in program marketing and outreach activities in the community.

Traveling between outpatient locations will be required.

 


Qualifications

Education:
Successful completion of a graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology, with related clinical requirements

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology granted by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association

  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) through the American Heart Association

  • Current or Eligible for Maryland Licensure in Speech Language Pathology


Experience Required:
Minimum experience of two years evaluating and treating dysphagia and other feeding disorders required

Experience in a physical disabilities setting obtained either in an acute care or rehabilitation facility preferred

This position will NOT support a Clinical Fellow


Preferred: Experience with or certification in the Sequential Oral Sensory Approach to Feeding
