Sustainability Communications Intern

We’re looking for a Communications Intern to join our team!

The Vinyl Institute (VI), a U.S. trade association based in Washington, DC, currently has an opening for a Communications Intern to support sustainability activities and projects for our dynamic organization. The Vinyl Institute, founded in 1982, is a U.S. corporate trade organization representing the leading manufacturers of vinyl, vinyl chloride monomer, and vinyl additives and modifiers. The Vinyl Institute supports the Vinyl Sustainability Council (VSC), which is dedicated to the advancement of sustainability in the vinyl industry. The U.S. vinyl industry encompasses nearly 3,000 vinyl manufacturing facilities, more than 350,000 employees and an overall economic value of $54B.

Essential Functions:
• Provide support to the Vinyl Sustainability Council (VSC) Manager of Sustainability and volunteer leaders in our +Vantage VinylTM (+VV) industry sustainability initiative.
• Support database management of members and prospective members.
• Work with the communications team on sustainability related material such as presentation slides, press releases, social media content, and e-blasts.
• Write sustainability stories for +VV website and membership newsletter.
• Review VSC and +VV websites and social media content, to ensure relevance and current information.
• Collaborate with communications team to create and implement marketing plans that drive attendance at VSC events.
• Participate in VI and VSC events

Desired Skills and Experience:
• Seeking an undergraduate or graduate college student studying marketing communications or English who is considering a career in sustainability or communications; must be currently enrolled at the time of the internship.
• Those seeking a bachelor’s degree in marketing communications or English, are preferred.
• Must possess strong writing and verbal communications skills.
• Familiar with social media tools and platforms including Twitter and LinkedIn.
• Experience with WordPress and Adobe Illustrator, a plus.
• Experience with community outreach programs and student organizations, a plus.
• Outstanding time, tasks, and deadlines management skills
• Team player

Job Location: These positions are a remote internship and will be conducted on-line; our offices are in Washington, DC.

Compensation: We offer a stipend of $1,200/month, paid bi-weekly, for 6 months (July-December). The potential level of effort would be about 15-18 hours of weekly support. The Vinyl Institute is an equal opportunity employer.
