Secondary Special Education Teacher- Positive Behavior Support

General Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing social skills instruction for students and support for teachers working with students with disabilities who demonstrate challenging behaviors in the school environment. Support development of FBAs and BIPs and work with school teams to implement positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) in the least restrictive environment.

Essential Duties;

  • Works cooperatively with school staff and Senior Teacher to provide support and resources regarding PBIS for students with disabilities
  • Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team whose purpose is to provide appropriate educational programs for students with challenging behaviors
  • Provides onsite, individualized support to school staff on best practices for working with students with challenging behaviors
  • Observe and monitor students with challenging behaviors, collect data and develop IEPs to provide supports and services for students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment;
  • Assists with development of curriculum planning and materials related to successful implementation of IEP;
  • Assist in developing short- and long-range goals for the student’s individualized education program (IEP);
  • Writes reports related to observation of students with challenging behaviors;
  • Collect data regarding challenging behaviors and work with a team to develop FBAs and BIPs and recommend changes if needed;
  • Assist in transitions between levels and least restricted environment;
  • Maintains and provides accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations;
  • Able to be trained in crisis prevention and de-escalation system;
  • Keeps abreast of recent developments in special education and behavioral interventions and shows evidence of continuing professional growth;
  • Creates and delivers evidenced-based lessons to address social skills using a designated curriculum;
  • Collaborates with general education and special education teachers to support the successful inclusion of students with disabilities;
  • Provides a structured classroom environment to support students with challenging behaviors;
  • Performs related work as required.
