Secondary Special Education Autism Resource Teacher

General Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing programmatic and educational instruction to children with autism grades 6-12.
 
Essential Duties;

  • Interprets the abilities and disabilities of students with autism; works cooperatively with students’ teachers to provide support and resources and assists teacher with class assignments for autism students;
  • Observe and continue to monitor students with ASD and provide recommendations to the IEP team on changes which may benefit the education experience of the student;
  • Collect data related to IEP goal, academic, and behavioral progress of students in the general education and special education setting and recommend changes if needed;
  • Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team whose purpose is to provide appropriate educational programs for students with autism and related disabilities;
  • Assists with development of curriculum planning and materials related to successful implementation of IEP;
  • Develops short- and long-range goals for the student’s individualized education program (IEP);
  • Maintains and provides accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations;
  • Keeps abreast of recent developments in education for special education students and ASD and shows evidence of continuing professional growth;
  • Create and deliver evidence-based lessons addressing social skills for students with ASD;
  • Writes annual IEPs and amendments for students with ASD;
  • Writes reports related to testing and observation of students with ASD;
  • Administer assessments specific to students with ASD;
  • Provides in-class support on best practices for working with students with ASD;
  • Assist in transitions between levels and Least Restricted Environment;
  • Works collaboratively with general and special education teachers to provide services and supports for students with ASD in the least restrictive environment;
  • Able to be trained in crisis prevention and de-escalation system;
  • Perform related work as required.
