Special Education Reading Resource Teacher- Secondary

Description
To provide students with disabilities that impact their achievement in the area of reading with specialized instruction which will enable them to achieve to their fullest potentials. To consult with the middle school reading resource teachers who are providing specialized instruction in reading to students with learning disabilities to ensure a smooth transition to high school. 
Essential Duties:

  • Develops data collection systems to note progress on student’s reading achievement and uses results to adjust student instruction. 
  • Uses the student's individualized educational plans (IEPs) to plan daily instructional activities.
  • Selects and utilizes materials appropriate to the students' instructional levels and learning profile
  • Organizes learning activities to achieve specific concepts. 
  • Assists in developing goals for the student's individualized education program (IEP).
  • Assesses students in the area of reading to provide detailed information for the present level of performance
  • Maintains a favorable psychological environment for learning.
  • Maintains order within the classroom setting in accordance with division guidelines regarding pupil behavior management.
  • Plan for student transitions between buildings (middle to high) to ensure appropriate materials are in place for the identified students’ specialized reading program. 
  • Provides good communication between home and school 
  • Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by district policy and state/federal regulations for special education. 
  • Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team whose purpose is to provide appropriate educational programs for students with disabilities.
  • Participates in meetings specific to the reading resource teacher position as well as district level professional development opportunities 
  • Keeps abreast of recent developments in education for special education students and shows evidence of continuing professional growth.
