The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services is hiring for a Family Services Trainer to meet the training needs of new and existing staff.
 
What You Do and How You Do it:
You will be responsible for the planning, development, coordination, and delivery of training to staff within the Family Services Division. Responsibilities will include managing many aspects of the onboarding process for newly hired, promoted, or transferred employees. In addition, you will assess, plan for and facilitate ongoing training for the Family Services Division and oversee transfer of learning activities. At times, you will be responsible for the development and supervision of interns. Perform other work as required.
 
Here’s What You Need:
A bachelor’s degree in social work or in the human services field and three years of social work experience or human services experience is required or an equivalent combination of training and experience. We prefer a master’s degree in social work and experience in public child welfare and adult learning techniques.
 
•  Excellent oral and written communication skills to include the ability to interact with a diverse population
•  Outstanding public speaking and presentation skills, especially for court interventions
•  Ability to deliver training to adults based on a variety of learning styles and settings
•  Assertive and confident – especially when being challenged
•  Independent thinker and decision maker
•  Demonstrated leadership qualities and ability
•  Strong computer skills
•  Ability to deal effectively with conflict
 The salary range is $49,875 - $58,698 annually, plus an attractive benefits package.
 
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
Realistic Job Preview
We’ll be honest—there’s a lot to be done and it’s busy. You may have to onboard several new workers from several teams within our division monthly, while creating and coordinating the continuous learning needs of existing staff. You will be expected to facilitate the growth and development of staff and the organization in the midst of change. Flexibility, commitment, and a passion for learning and sharing knowledge with others are critical.
