4814822 Postdoctoral Fellow, Applied Synthesis Technologies

The Pfizer Worldwide Research, Development and Medical postdoctoral training program provides a unique opportunity to pursue ground-breaking research in an industrial setting.  We are seeking a team-oriented synthetic chemist with an interest in innovative catalytic methodologies to join Pfizer’s Medicine Design group in Connecticut as a postdoctoral researcher.  You will be conducting research within the emerging field of photoenzymatic synthesis, combining photo- and biocatalysis to discover novel chemical transformations at the forefront of asymmetric chemistry.  You will join an industry-leading chemical technology department, mentored by industrial experts across a range of disciplines (photocatalysis, biocatalysis, flow and analytical chemistry), and your research accelerated by state-of-the-art high-throughput experimentation (HTE) and analytical platforms.  Through the completion of this interdisciplinary project, you will develop a broad scientific skill set of value to candidates interested in a future career in either academia or industry.
Pfizer’s postdoctoral program offers a competitive salary and benefits, bonus eligibility, career and professional development training opportunities, industrial experience, and the expectation to publish and showcase your research externally.  Applicants should have experience working independently in a laboratory setting and a background in chemical synthesis.  Knowledge of biocatalysis, photocatalysis or HTE would be an advantage in addition to demonstrated problem-solving and collaborative skills.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct cutting-edge research in the field of photoenzymatic synthesis.
  • Collaborate with internal experts in photo, enzymatic, flow, analytical and computational chemistry to drive your research.
  • Perform high-throughput reaction scouting experiments to explore novel bond disconnections and develop leads into publishable results.
  • Contribute to and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of asymmetric chemical synthesis literature.
  • Synthesis and characterization of chemical compounds required for the progression of your research.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. in chemistry with extensive synthetic experience.
  • Proven track record in and commitment to publications in the scientific literature.
  • Demonstrated analytical and chemical problem-solving skills are required.
  • Exceptional communication skills (oral and written) are required.
  • Expert understanding of and strong contributions to synthetic chemistry literature are essential.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of biocatalysis, photocatalysis or high-throughput experimentation is an advantage.
