Salary up to $73,500 (commensurate with experience)

The Library of Virginia is seeking an Adult Services Consultant for the Library Development and Networking Division. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive consulting services and programs in the areas of service to adults and the aged and similar specialized areas offering direction, assistance, counsel, oversight, and training to the public libraries to facilitate high quality services for these populations.

This is a restricted position based on available funding through non-general fund revenue. Restricted employees are eligible for the state employee benefits package (including leave, retirement, life and workers’ compensation insurance). Restricted employees are not eligible for severance benefits or the provisions of the Layoff Policy, DHRM Policy 1.30.
 
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
25% - Manage the Find It Virginia (FIVA) program
10% - Training and tier 1 support to WordPress libraries for both WordPress and Site Improve purposes
25% - Lifelong Learning Programming, Outreach, and Collection Development
20% - Training and Continuing Education for Adult and Aged Library Patrons
10% - Consulting, Collaboration, and Cooperation with Public Libraries
10% - Support LDND Division activities, meetings, planning and team efforts
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have a valid Virginia driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire;
  • Knowledge of and experience with library management and information services, the principles, practices, and policies of adult services in libraries;
  • Knowledge of trends and techniques in planning, managing, and evaluating adult services;
  • Knowledge of the principles of Outcome Based Evaluation measurements;
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and public policies relating to adults, aging, and adult literacy;
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and policies related to library, reference, genealogy, and local history collections;
  • Excellent technology skills, with currency in virtual communications, programming, and platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research, plan, and conduct programs and training;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to work in teams internally and externally;
  • Ability to use computers and standard applications in the modern office environment;
  • Ability to work independently; and
  • Ability to travel.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from an ALA accredited university with a Master’s degree in Library Science;
  • Virginia Professional Librarian Certificate or ability to obtain;
  • Considerable professional library experience; and
  • Public library experience strongly preferred.
 
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute for educational requirements.
