ELEMENTARY MUSIC TEACHER (JOB ID# 1436)


Must have or be eligible for appropriate Georgia educator certification.

REPORTS TO: Principal  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, as appropriate.

2. Use teaching methods and instructional materials appropriate for objectives, learners and environment. Consideration should be given to learner needs, interests and abilities.

3. Develops balanced music program and lessons to organize class time so that students have adequate time for preparation, rehearsal, and instruction. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

4. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students within the confines of the state curriculum.

5. Develop and administer music education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives, appropriate lesson plans for classes, and submit them upon request of immediate supervisor. Develop and maintain all documentation as required by the local school system and state and federal policies/regulations/laws.

6. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals by establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicating these objectives to students.

7. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the students involved. 

8. Ability to instruct students in singing, harmonization, and chorus as needed. Ability to play an instrument or instruments and conduct students in playing instruments as needed.

9. Demonstrate, by instruction and action, the district's philosophy of education, instructional goals and objectives.

10. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of the classroom behavior and procedure and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

11. Plan, coordinate rehearsals, directs students in musical programs and performances outside the classroom, supervise appropriate activities for teacher aide(s), volunteer(s), substitute teacher(s), student teacher(s) and student observers and evaluates their job performances when required.

12. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district's policy and administrative regulation.

13. Assist in determining the special needs of students and notifies specialists when required.

14. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Report suspected cases of child abuse to the proper authority as required by law.

15. Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so.

16. Maintain and improve professional stature by following professional practices consistent with the district’s policies.

17. Establish and maintain a positive interpersonal relationship with his/her students, parents, and the community through conferences and written communication. Participate in organizations established at the school for teachers, parents, and community.

18. Assist with non-instructional activities when required or requested to do so.

19. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees.

20. Perform tasks involving light/moderate lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling. Be able to work in a variety of environments: classrooms, outside, field trips, etc.

21. Perform other duties as assigned.
