Technical Theatre Director

The Eau Claire Children’s Theatre is a non-profit, volunteer-driven community theatre providing quality theatrical and educational experiences for western Wisconsin residents of all ages. Founded in 1989, the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre will be starting its 35th Season this fall. ECCT has four main areas of programming- 
 mainstage productions of major Broadway musicals
 school matinees of shows based on award-winning children’s literature
 touring productions
 summer theatre classes
Each season ECCT produces 16 shows along with a variety of special events, at three main venues- the new $60 million dollar Pablo Center at the Confluence (1200 seat RCU Theatre and 400 seat JAMF Theatre) and the 275 seat theatre owned by ECCT, The Oxford. With annual attendance of 30,000-32,000 patrons and an annual budget of over $550,000, the Eau Claire Children’s Theatre is one of the largest community theatres in western Wisconsin and one of only a handful of children’s theatres in the state, serving both youth and adult performers.

Typically our full and part-time paid staffing consists of the following positions:
 Executive Director
 Associate Director
 Production Manager
Production Assistant
 Technical Director 
 Costumes and Wardrobe Staff (x2)
 Technical Interns (x2)
 Costume Interns (1 or 2)
 Part-time Costume Shop Manager

EAU CLAIRE CHILDREN’S THEATRE, INC.
TECHNICAL THEATRE DIRECTOR 
I. POSITION OBJECTIVES: To provide superior technical expertise in the areas of Sound, Lighting, and Special Effects for ECCT productions, rentals and special events. To oversee day to day facilities operations and maintenance for ECCT and The Oxford in conjunction with the Production Manager. To be an active member of the Production Staff, assisting in the areas of scenic construction, painting and/or properties as capable.

II. POSITION CHARACTERISTICS:
Recruited by: Executive Director
Salary/Benefits: Annual salary $30,000-$36,000 based on experience
Monthly health insurance stipend provided
Monthly cell phone allowance provided
Paid vacations, holidays and sick days
Schedule: Position start date- as early as August 28; no later than September 25.
Full time salaried position; schedule will flex between afternoon, evening and
weekend hours depending on ECCT production schedule

III. POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Executive Director 
Supervises: Community volunteers, Interns
Coordinates with: Production Manager

IV. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
• BA/BS in Technical Theatre, Lighting or Sound Design, Tech Ed or related field desired or comparable experience in the field
• Demonstrated sound skills-design, systems, repairs, and implementation (mix, run mics)
• Demonstrated lighting skills-design, systems, repairs, and implementation (hang, program, run)
• Demonstrated special effects skills-design and implementation (find, edit, run) 
• Knowledge of theatrical style, conventions and terminology
• Strong oral communication skills
• Background in or appreciation of theatre
• Demonstrated ability to recruit and work with volunteers
• Ability to manage several projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
• Strong organizational skills and highly motivated with strong work ethic
• Ability to work with minimal supervision

V. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND SAMPLE TASKS
• Design and implement sound, lighting, and special effects elements for all productions, rentals and special events at The Oxford 
• Design and implement sound, lighting and special effects elements for ECCT productions at offsite locations ie: Pablo Center at The Confluence
• Oversee maintenance of technical equipment at ECCT and in The Oxford
• Assist with the completion of scenic requirements for ECCT shows as time and talent allows
• Assist with IT and related tasks as experience allows
• Other duties as assigned
