Technology Program Facilitator (Service-Year Stipend Position with LVC)

Lutheran Volunteer Corps Service-Year
Spend a year serving at a social justice non-profit, while exploring living in community, living simply & sustainably, and exploring spirituality. We are seeking people who wish to bridge social justice in practice with social justice theory; build leadership and employable skills in social justice; and explore the LVC values of living in community, simply and sustainably, to build communication across differences.
 
The Lutheran Volunteer Corps is a community of faith uniting people to work for peace with justice. We pursue our mission by placing adults 21+ (“volunteers”) in full-time service positions at social-justice organizations for one or two years. All LVC Volunteers are encouraged to live into LVC’s core spiritual practices of living simply and sustainably in intentional community while serving the cause of peace with justice. LVC places Volunteers in nonprofits (placements) across the United States in Baltimore, MD; Minneapolis, MN; St. Paul, MN; Omaha, NE; Washington, DC; and Wilmington, DE.  

LVC Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age. LVC Volunteers come from a wide variety of faith backgrounds, and do not need to be Lutheran. As a Reconciling in Christ organization, LVC welcomes and encourages the participation of people of all gender identities and sexual orientations in all aspects of LVC.

Job Summary 
Co-facilitate engaging introductory coding & robotics for classes, utilizing LEGO Education robotics building kits and curriculum, online computer science lessons, and additional guided building challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities
Programs
● Facilitate/co-lead students through hands-on coding & robotics lessons
● Assist & prepare as needed for each class and clean up resources & organize afterward
● Follow program curriculum and integrate guided design & build challenges
● Use evaluation method to assess program strengths and identify areas of improvement
● Honor host sites requests and internal policies, respecting their space and resources
● Carryout key components of programs:
   o Objectives: Creativity, critical thinking, communication, & collaboration
   o Content: Primarily connected to coding, robotics, & design principles
   o Engagement: Utilize social emotional learning & learn through play principles
   o Evaluation: Obtain feedback as directed by cM’s Programs sub-committee
   o Considerations: Provide and process potential new programs/topics
Administration
● Organize curriculum documents, prepare proposals, and finalize curricula
● Maintain all technology & program resources and update online inventory
● Research ways to improve programs through implementation & resource documents 
● Assist with all other administrative tasks as requested by the Executive Director
Communication with Executive Director
●Offer insight and feedback to improve program 
●Inform of any technology issues or challenges with students 
●Provide program updates & info for website and other promotional items
Possible additional responsibilities
●Marketing: Communication, social media, video/photography, promotional materials
●Foundations: Research, coordinating, and/or writing

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
●It is not required to have a background in coding/programming, but rather a desire to learn, be a part of a team, and passion for the work and organization. On the job training will be provided
●Prepare and work hard & smart to successfully facilitate programs
●Develop good rapport with children to effectively lead and teach them
●Work with students in an engaging manner while directing their experience
●Take responsibility, initiative, and work well individually & collectively
●Agrees with organizational values and contributes to its success
