Law Enforcement Admin

Position Description:

This 24-week program is a rigorous work and learning experience that provides exposure to the Forest Service, development and training opportunities, and the opportunity to make a lasting impression on generations to come. Participants will gain experience in law enforcement and investigation. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Forest Protection Officer training course (40 hours)
  • Basic firefighting course(s)
  • OJT/exposure to the various disciplines within the USFS Land Management Police Training Program (LMPT) and Field Training Evaluation Programs (FTEP) (combined both programs take approximately 6 months to complete)
  • Complete other law enforcement skill enhancing training as identified by mentor officer or management

After the completion of training, candidate would be assigned to work with a journeyman level USDA-FS LEO daily. During this time, the mentor LEO would assist the candidate with developing their law enforcement skills and knowledge of the USDA-FS. The candidate would be expected to work on their fitness level, which might include following a physical fitness plan developed by a USDA-FS LEI Physical Fitness Coordinator. To study the LEI manual, handbook and code of federal regulations/US Codes. To complete and follow an individualized learning plan.

Qualifications:
Law Enforcement trainees will abide by the restrictions placed on Law Enforcement positions in the Resource Assistant Handbook/Guidelines. Upon selection, candidate will be administered the Law Enforcement and Investigation (LEI) Physical Efficiency Battery (PEB)physical fitness assessment and must attain minimum score at the 25th percentile for each test. The candidate must complete a required drug screening and physical examination and grant the agency authorization to conduct a limited background investigation to ensure they are authorized to possess firearms and perform law enforcement duties. If all tests/examinations are passed, the candidate will be enrolled at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) to complete the required basic training courses to serve as a USDA-FS Law Enforcement Officer (LEO).

Preferred candidates will have a degree in criminal justice or majors related to natural resources.

*This is a 1099 position. Persons paid on a 1099 basis are independent contractors and are self-employed.
