Spray Technician

$33,324/ year or higher DOQ + Full-Time County Benefits
 
James City County General Services Department seeks an individual to perform responsible work in the area of pesticide maintenance for County parks and other grounds and planted areas throughout James City County. 
 
Responsibilities:
·        Oversees work of team members during operations including accountability for job completion, materials selection, coordination of logistics, and overall welfare and performance of assigned personnel.
·        Maintains records of assigned work including work performed, pesticide usage, equipment repair and maintenance, and maintains an inventory of necessary pesticides and fertilizers.
·        Prepares and maintains a variety of logs and reports; assists in ordering supplies and tracking inventory.
·        Performs preventive maintenance on equipment as needed; may review new equipment, chemicals, etc.
·        Performs pesticide and fertilizer applications to areas not to be limited to athletic fields, landscaped beds, common turf areas, and roadway medians.
·        Could fill in on other grounds keeping crews during times of need, performing duties as assigned.
·        This job is considered essential personnel and will be required to work during and following natural disasters and emergency situations.

Requirements:
·        Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma; considerable experience in the operation of grounds-keeping equipment and in landscape techniques and some experience in overseeing the work of others preferred.
·        Must possess a valid Virginia Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire and have an acceptable driving record based on James City County’s criteria.
·        Must possess and maintain certification for application of herbicides, fertilizers and certain insecticides.
·        Knowledge of landscaping and grounds care techniques and operation of relevant equipment to include pesticide and pesticide application using both high and low pressure systems; equipment operation and safety regulations; principles and processes for providing customer service including setting and meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
·        Skill in computer software especially Microsoft Office Suite; equipment usage and pesticide application.
·        Ability to plan, coordinate and guide the work of others; perform strenuous physical labor; establish and maintain effective working relationships with both County staff and the public; follow oral and written instructions
