Financial Reporting Accountant

JOB SUMMARY:
 
Complete tasks associated with the Company’s quarterly and annual statutory, hgaap and jgaap reporting requirements. Work to obtain in depth knowledge of the general ledger and Peoplesoft nVision and query reporting capabilities.

               General Ledger:
Ensure accuracy of SIG/Safety/SFIC/SSIC/Canada STAT, GAAP and JGAAP accounting and reporting
 
Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, reporting and analyses during the monthly, quarterly and annual close processes to ensure accuracy of STAT, GAAP and JGAAP reporting.
 
Analyze and report findings of various close items to management.
 
               Monthly Reporting:
Responsible for preparation of monthly deliverables to SNCC management as well as RSL / DFG.
 
Monthly responsibilities include, but are not limited to: RSL / DFG deliverables, Losses/LAE/ULAE, Line of Business income statements, Audit & Insurance accruals and DFG intercompany transactions.
 
Maintain, update and balance SNCC/RSL mapping file; Maintain regular communication of changes with appropriate internal and external parties.
 
               Quarterly and Annual Statements:
Responsible for preparation of quarterly / annual reporting, in conjunction with monthly reporting responsibilities. This includes additional reporting for JGAAP close.
 
Quarterly / Annual responsibilities include, but are not limited to, additional RSL / DFG deliverables, preparation of reserve work papers and reallocation of reserves, analysis of actuarial workpapers, and preparation of lease schedule.
 
Assist in the preparation of quarterly and annual statutory filings and supplements, through preparation of various reports and filings. This includes, but is not limited to:  Reserves and IBNR spreadsheet, Footnotes / Interrogatories and Schedule P schedules.
 
Assist in the preparation of annual audited financial statements, and prepare other information or schedules required for HGAAP and JGAAP reporting throughout the year.
 
Maintain policies and procedures specific to the position.
 
Must maintain consistent and predictable attendance.
 
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Assist in process improvement through identification of possible efficiencies within designated responsibilities
 
Be able to cross-train in various responsibilities, as needed, in order to serve as back-up
 
Complete special projects for the department as needed.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
 
3 - 5 years of experience in insurance industry or pertinent experience
 
Big Four Public Accounting experience a plus
 
CPA designation preferred
 
MBA a plus
 
PeopleSoft experience a plus
 
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint
 
Good oral and written communication skills
               
Able to multi-task and prioritize tasks and complete duties within a specified time frame and meet deadlines
 
Self-starter with ability to work independently, as well as within a team, and ability to maintain a positive attitude during ever-changing challenges and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
               
Detail oriented and organized
