Network Engineer

Overview

Location:  St. Louis, MO or Mt. Sterling, IL                                                      
Department: Information Technology
Reports To: Security & Network Manager
 
Your Role: You will be responsible for long and short-term network (LAN/WAN) planning, design, and optimization. In teaming with the business, you'll develop strategies and direction for network systems solutions using current and emerging technologies. You'll translate business requirements into network or process designs. You'll plan and recommend network hardware, systems management software and architecture to ensure compliance. May take on the role of Project Leader for special enterprise-wise assignments.
  • Monitor network performance/tuning, ensure capacity planning is performed, proactively assess and make recommendations for improvement, and evaluate new server-based upgrades
  • Install, configure, and maintain routers, switches, and hubs for the network systems (wireless and VoIP)
  • Develop and maintain documentation regarding network configurations, operating procedures, and service records relating to network hardware and software
  • Monitor network links for LAN/WAN and assist in training staff in implementations, maintenance, and support of LAN/WAN
  • Provide guidance in client computer operating systems, computer naming, and usernames
  • Apply lean thinking and tools to identify and eliminate waste in all areas of the position.
Role Specifics:
  • Travel – Occasional overnight travel. Ability to independently travel as needed, without restriction, by all modes of transportation, including car, plane or train for industry meetings or conferences.
  • After hours – on call to support business needs and off-hours or weekend work as needed

Qualifications

We Need You To Have:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (or related field) or equivalent Dot experience
  • Desired Certifications: CCNA, CCNP
  • 5+ years’ experience in:
  • Administering IP networks
  • DNS/DHCP technologies
  • Troubleshooting network issues & building VPN
  • Using SNMP based monitoring software
  • Administering Firewall Platforms (F5 ASM, Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, or equivalent
  • 11 Wireless protocols
  • Ability to lift boxes up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work both independently & within a team
  • Strong professional interpersonal, verbal, & written skills
  • Leadership & team-centric skills and strong solution orientation
We’d Like You To Have:
  • Prior NOC Experience
  • Clear understanding & experience troubleshooting with the OSI model
  • Experience working with converged network solutions that deliver data, real-time video and voice over the same IP network
  • Experience with networking protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, SNMP/RMON, and RDP
  • Experience configuring/administering LAN/WAN/SDWAN communications and network hardware such as routers, switches, bridges, gateways, firewalls, and load balancers
  • Experience building & maintaining QOS for real time- based services
  • Cloud design and implementation
