Scientific associate (medical writer)

PharmaCom Group, a small medical education company in Stamford, CT, has an opening for a scientific associate to join our scientific services team. Our commitment to quality and client service has resulted in growth and new business opportunities within the pharmaceutical industry. We are an entrepreneurial business, and so the successful candidate must be well organized, possess initiative, and quickly earn the confidence of the management team. We produce a range of promotional and unbranded clinical content, including enduring materials (eg, monographs, case studies, slide decks, videos, conference reports, executive summaries, newsletters, journal articles, brief reports, Website content) and live programs (requiring agendas, moderator/discussion guides, PowerPoint presentations, and digital content).

Candidates should have a deep interest in and curiosity about science and medicine, and have shown an aptitude and enthusiasm for writing and communicating scientific content.

Responsibilities
Research:
  • Conduct research into clinical/medical/pharmaceutical content
  • Provide research support to VP of scientific services
Writing:
  • Write clinical/medical/pharmaceutical content in a variety of formats for healthcare professional audiences
Editorial:
  • Fact check medical content against primary supporting documentation
  • Annotate references
Project Management:
  • Ensure adherence to project timelines
  • Assist in the development of online, print, and live program ideas and tactics for pharmaceutical and medical association clients
  • Liaise with contract and freelance personnel (eg, graphic designers)
  • Identify, recruit, and manage expert faculty

Desired Skills and Experience
  • Pharmacy, science, or public health background
  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in a related subject
  • Strong familiarity with medical concepts and terminology
  • Experienced with online literature search engines (eg, PubMed)
  • Ability to independently plan, organize, track, and complete multiple projects in a timely manner, ensuring that strategically aligned communication points are consistent across programs
  • Ability to take ownership of a given assignment, proactively consulting other team members for information or guidance, as necessary
  • A high sense of urgency, motivated, and a quick-learning self-starter
  • Excellent editorial skills and high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel; Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Creative Cloud suite of programs, and reference management software (eg, EndNote)
  • Experience with or willingness to work with digital media
  • Willingness to travel, if required, to conferences, advisory board meetings, studios, or client site
  • Desire to make a positive impact in an entrepreneurial business and willingness to extend beyond specified job-responsibilities as needed in a growing company
