Assistant Superintendent for Special Education

Reporting directly to the Deputy Superintendent, Jefferson County Schools chief academic officer, the Assistant Superintendent for Special Education is a critical leadership role that directly affects improved and high-quality student outcomes for students with special needs. This role directs, manages, develops, implements, monitors and strengthens all special education curricular and instructional initiatives and actions, and ensures all services are implemented within federal, state and local regulations, policies and procedures. The Assistant Superintendent will coordinate the efforts of federal state and local agencies, private specialists, parents and department supervisors to provide the services needed by all Jefferson County students, working to eliminate disparities in achievement and ensure college and career readiness for students with special needs. This role shall develop and implement JCS policies and procedures for identifying and meeting the needs of diverse learners, leads comprehensive planning and coordination, and provides system leadership to ensure equitable access to high-quality special education and related services. Directs district-wide professional development for special education and supervises various administrators. Attends and contributes to Board of Education meetings as requested and directed by the Superintendent of Schools.
