Physical Scientist GS-13 or GS-14

The U.S. Department of Energy is seeking a Physical Scientist GS-13 or GS-14, FPL: 14, to serve as a Program Manager for the ASCR Leadership Computing Challenge (ALCC) program. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in or competencies in Scientific Modelling, Numerical Analysis, Leadership, High Performance Computing, Strategic Planning, Innovation, Consulting Skills, Risk Management, Emerging Technology Monitoring, System Application/Cluster Management (Slurm, Ganglia, MPI), Programming and Scripting Languages (Python, OPENMPI), System Design, Software Design, System Management and Decommissioning.

The candidate will be a recognized scientific authority and expert in high performance computational science, which encompasses the diverse areas of physical sciences, applied mathematics and computer science; data management and policies; machine learning and artificial intelligence; and operations of advanced scientific computing research facilities. Responsibilities include providing scientific advice and guidance to officials, stakeholders, managers, scientists, and engineers by synthesizing information, providing insight to inform effective program execution, monitoring labs, identifying opportunities and challenges for the ASCR Facilities and its users, providing program analysis, and coordinating and executing strategic communications activities.

The selectee will be allowed to telework so long as the agency’s maximum telework posture sustains.
