Project Manager, Forest Partnerships

The Northwoods of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota is a landscape that encompasses millions of acres of forest, thousands of miles of wild rivers and streams, and countless lakes; all within a day's drive for over 40 million people. The Northwoods is also home to the headwaters that feed Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, and the Mississippi River. Keeping the forests, and the embedded wetlands and riparian areas of the Northwoods healthy and intact is integral to protecting one-sixth of the world’s freshwater.

The Project Manager, Forest Partnerships will help The Nature Conservancy advance a new initiative – Water Northwoods (Water NO.W.) – through supporting partnerships with the goal of directly restoring thousands of acres of headwater wetlands and hundreds of miles of rivers and streams across the Northwoods of Michigan and Wisconsin. This position will be part of Northwoods Project Team working in both Michigan and Wisconsin, and will be located in Marquette, MI. The Project Manager, Forest Partnerships will develop and execute restoration projects related to forests, wetlands, and streams in Northern Michigan and Wisconsin land owned and managed by partners, but specifically in relation to existing and new grants, agreements, and partnership projects with the US Forest Service.    

The Project Manager, Forest Partnerships provides technical leadership and support to Michigan and Wisconsin and assists with local and regional forest and water planning and restoration activities. This position uses the best science and current thinking on forest management and restoration to address critical wetland, river, and forest restoration needs in the Upper Great Lakes. The Project Manager, Forest Partnerships works with state, federal and private partners using a wide range of partnership agreements to effect lasting, watershed scale restoration. The Project Manager, Forest Partnerships addresses critical threats to natural systems, fosters cross-site learning among the conservation community, and supplies conservation planning teams with information relevant to the project planning process in the Northwoods. This position coordinates forest, watershed, and wetlands restoration community support both externally and within the Conservancy. The Project Manager, Forest Partnerships coordinates multiple projects, sets deadlines, and manages each project to completion. The compensation range for this position begins at $46,500 and is dependent upon experience.
