Position Title: Surface Compliance Tech (GS 1802)

Internship Overview
Department of Interior’s (DOI) Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host a minimum of 11-weeks of full-time summer internships. The internships will be an opportunity to bring new and diverse viewpoints to the BLM while working on specific projects targeted for attracting, recruiting, and filling mission critical and hard-to-fill occupations. Position Overview
Department of Interior (DOI) Criminal investigators, Inspectors and uniformed Law Enforcement Rangers protect land and wildlife through careful and critical inspection, investigation, enforcement, and compliance work. They protect against wrongdoing on public lands, like stealing timber, setting fires, drug smuggling, dumping hazardous materials, or vandalizing recreational areas.

Description/Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate is inquisitive, careful and detail-oriented, with strong interpersonal and writing skills. She or he takes the responsibility for protecting life and property by upholding laws very seriously. Both indoors in an office setting, and outdoors in public lands areas which may be remote or with rough terrain with challenging environmental conditions
  • Analyzes criminal activity, resource vandalism, and violation problems on public lands
  • Provides assistance in law enforcement investigations
  • Prepares investigation reports

Eligibility:
§ Preferred majors: Natural Resource Science, Biology, Environmental Science, Physical Science, Geographic Information System, Biology, Wildlife, other related majors
§ Valid state issued driver’s license required
§ U.S. Citizenship or Green Card Holder required

Criteria for Submission:
  1. Currently enrolled as a Undergraduate, Graduate Student or Recent Graduate (on or after December 2020)
  2. Resume
  3. Transcript (official or unofficial)
  4. Minimum GPA - 2.50
