New Graduate Nurse Residency Program Opportunity in Humboldt County, California!
 
Positions available in multiple areas, including Medical-Surgical, Progressive Care Unit, Emergency Services, Intensive Care Unit and Surgical Services!

Our Residency Program transitions new graduate nurses into practice emphasizing inter-professional, collaborative, and patient-centered care. Our comprehensive specialty curriculum includes online and classroom based learning, clinical simulation, skills development and unit orientation with specialty trained preceptors. Our Core Fundamentals program is designed to support new graduate professional development through their first year of practice.

St Joseph Hospital – Eureka, CA
Redwood Memorial Hospital – Fortuna, CA

St Joseph Hospital is a nonprofit, 138-bed health care facility located in Eureka. This full-service hospital is now designated as a level III trauma center and has been a cornerstone of the community since 1920. St Joseph offers cardiac, critical care, emergency, maternity and infant care, neuroscience, oncology, orthopedic, surgery, and more.
Redwood Memorial Hospital is a nonprofit, 35-bed critical access hospital located in Fortuna. This full-service hospital opened in 1957 and services the communities of Eel River Valley and Southern Humboldt. Redwood Memorial offers critical care, emergency, imaging, maternity and infant care, and surgical services.
Both St Joseph & Redwood Memorial offer a structured clinical academy program to new grad and new to acute care RNs.
Opportunities to train in the following specialty areas could include areas such as:

  • Surgical Services (Eureka & Redwood)
  • Intensive Care Unit
Program Timeline:
  • Job posting close date: May 21st, 2021 at 11:59 PM PST
  • On-demand text and Video Interview completed no later than June 4, 2021 at 11:59 PM PST
  • New Grad RN interview date: Week of 6/7/2021 (must be selected)
  • New Grad RN start dates: July 19th, 2021
 
Position Commitments:
  • Ability to work 36 hours per week – 0.9 FTE or 40 hours per week (depending on unit)
  • Available to work 12 hour shifts
  • Available to work any shift (Days, Evenings, Nights)
  • Able to participate in all program activities throughout the 12-month period
  • Complete ModernHire (video pre-screening questions)
  • Clinical Instructor references will be required.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association is required for all positions.

Job Function:
The Registered Nurse employs intellectual, interpersonal and technical skills through the utilization of the nursing process to assist patients of various ages in achieving maximum health potential. The Registered Nurse functions as a health team member through independent, interdependent and dependent roles within the health care system. Serving as the patient's advocate, the RN assumes responsibility and accountability for nursing care for patients of various ages as defined by the department scope of service.
Skills Required:
  • Ability to ensure patient confidence and comfort.
  • Efficiently communicates with SJH-HC physicians, customers and employees, both in person and by telephone.
  • Reads and comprehends written instructions, able to interpret medical orders, correspondence, memorandums, and medical records.
  • Applies deductive and common sense reasoning ability to problem solve on a frequent basis.
  • Initiative and the ability to make independent judgments are required.
Job Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school and/or proof of licensure by the state of California.
Experience: Acute care and/or specialty experience preferred.
Licensure: State of California Registered Nurse (Required 2 Weeks Prior to Start Date).
Certification: Current CPR certification is required. Department specific certifications are required on hire or within the introductory/training period or no later than 120 days. These are noted below.
