Position Title: Realty Specialist (GS 1170)

Internship Overview
Department of Interior’s (DOI) Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host a minimum of 11-weeks of full-time summer internships. The internships will be an opportunity to bring new and diverse viewpoints to the BLM while working on specific projects targeted for attracting, recruiting, and filling mission critical and hard-to-fill occupations. Position Overview
Realty Specialists acquire, manage and dispose of property on behalf of Department of Interior (DOI) or Indian tribes, in conjunction with public land programs or water projects. Their work ensures that authorized uses of public land will be in compliance with laws and regulations.
 
Description/Responsibilities:
 
The ideal candidate understands the principles of good land use planning, realty and appraisal practices. They are an effective communicator and team leader with excellent research and analytical abilities.
 
  • Gather and analyze information
  • Research land records and related documents
  • Review applications and proposals
  • Enter and obtain data from land records systems
 
Eligibility:
§ Preferred majors: Pre-Law, Real Estate, Business, History, Economics, Business Management & Administration, other related majors
§ Valid state issued driver’s license required
§ U.S. Citizenship or Green Card Holder required
§ Intern will be responsible for conducting background research (locate title records), developing a system to efficiently investigate/identify/locate (GPS points) the existing lands rights/uses in the field)
§ Intern will also be responsible for reporting the results of this work in internal BLM files, and ArcGIS geo-databases
