Position Title: Accounting Technician (GS 0525) 
 
Internship Overview
Department of Interior’s (DOI) Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host a minimum of 11-weeks of full-time summer internships. The internships will be an opportunity to bring new and diverse viewpoints to the BLM while working on specific projects targeted for attracting, recruiting, and filling mission critical and hard-to-fill occupations. Position Overview
The Department of Interior (DOI) mission involves keeping track of many thousands of financial transactions: timber sales payments, rents, employee payrolls, recreational permit fees, royalties and electric service payments are just a few examples. Accounting Technicians provide essential support by processing receipts and payments accurately and efficiently and verifying and maintaining accurate accounting records.
 
Description/Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate possesses strong attention to detail and enjoys researching and solving problems.
  • Reviewing and classifying data/transactions for consistency
  • Examining and processing vouchers, purchase orders or payments
  • Identifying and closing out overdue accounting transactions
  • Entering data into accounting systems; Analyzing and reconciling accounts
  • Auditing routine transactions and resolving discrepancies
 
Eligibility:
§ Preferred majors: Accounting, Business Management & Administration, Economics, Marketing, other related majors
§ Valid state issued driver’s license required
§ U.S. Citizenship or Green Card Holder required
§ Strong verbal and written communication skills
