Position Title: Public Affairs Specialist (GS 1035) 
 
Internship Overview
Department of Interior’s (DOI) Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host a minimum of 11-weeks of full-time summer internships. The internships will be an opportunity to bring new and diverse viewpoints to the BLM while working on specific projects targeted for attracting, recruiting, and filling mission critical and hard-to-fill occupations. Position Overview
Public Affairs Specialists strengthen Department of Interior’s (DOI) interactions with the people it serves. They help the agency both listen to and inform its many stakeholders effectively.
 
Description/Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate has more than just superb interpersonal and written communication skills; she or he is persuasive, adaptable, and remains calm under pressure.
 
·        Prepare issue papers on topics for awareness
·        Research and summarize news reports or social media trends
·        Draft news releases
·        Assist with preparations for public meetings or special events
 
Eligibility:
§ Preferred majors: Business Management & Administration, Marketing, Digital Marketing, Communication, Political Science, Journalism, Digital Culture, Film Production, Multimedia Design, other related majors
§ Valid state issued driver’s license required
§ U.S. Citizenship or Green Card Holder required
§ Strong verbal and written communication skills
§ Ability to multi-task, write reports, create presentations, and preform some video editing work
§ Must be innovative and results driven
§ Must have knowledge of basic marketing techniques and/or web design practices
§ Must have knowledge of current social media platforms, trends, and practices
§ Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher)

Criteria for Submission:
  1. Currently enrolled as a Undergraduate, Graduate Student or Recent Graduate (on or after December 2020)
  2. Resume
  3. Transcript (official or unofficial)
  4. Minimum GPA - 2.50
