Senior Coordinator--Save the Children Action Network--New Mexico

Summary
The Senior Coordinator is responsible for building an advocacy base in target legislative districts by identifying, cultivating and organizing Save the Children Action Network (SCAN) supporters and volunteer leaders. Current SCAN campaign issues are early childhood education and child nutrition in the U.S., the safety of children arriving at the southern U.S. border, and protecting vulnerable children worldwide. You will create opportunities for parents and families of children who benefit from high-quality early learning programs to lead and advocate, actively recruiting, engaging and mobilizing constituents in target districts and building relationships with policymakers and elected officials. In partnership with the State & National Campaigns team, you will execute strategies both online and offline to educate and engage targeted individuals and groups to meet our annual goals and deliverables.
What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)
Build a base of advocates and develop community partnerships in key legislative districts (60%)
  • Recruiting and maintaining an expanded supporter base that includes parents and family advocates.
  • Outreach to community stakeholders, partner organizations, and others as necessary.
  • Conduct face to face interactions with family advocates and partners as needed in communities
  • Work collaboratively with the State Manager and SCAN Campaigns team staff to recruit Student Ambassadors on targeted college campuses and support outreach efforts to high schools
  • Assist the State Manager in recruiting and building a volunteer leader model that supports outreach to elected officials through letters, phone calls, social media, and in-person meetings, letters to the editor, and blog posts.
Conduct trainings and provide ongoing advocacy technical assistance for volunteers, family advocates, and community partners. (40%)
  • Promote SCAN’s agenda in coordination with partners by planning local events that educate the public.
  • Assist the State Manager in supporting logistics and recruiting for State and National Advocacy Summits.
 
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent ,plus at least three (3) years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement or issue-based advocacy
  • Demonstrated successful ability to communicate and collaborate with individuals and teams at all levels
  • Proven public speaking and training experience
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite and social media
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate, maintain, and deliver on multiple priorities, often with conflicting deadlines
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the state up to 20%
  • Have access to reliable transportation for purposes of travel throughout areas within the state
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging
This position may require the incumbent to operate a motor vehicle to fulfill certain essential functions of the job. The incumbent should maintain a valid driver’s license and remain in compliance with any Save the Children policies pertaining to the safe operation of motor vehicles.
