Bilingual Clinician (serving elementary age clients)

The Youth Initiatives Programs of NVFS utilize a highly effective, trauma-informed, culturally relevant service model to provide multi-modal “neighborhood based-school connected” services designed to ensure that at-risk immigrant youth and families are able to thrive in their chosen communities; succeed academically and socially; and that the communities themselves are equipped to prevent future community and family violence. The complex issues facing low income immigrant families living in high crime, high poverty neighborhoods require a comprehensive prevention, intervention and therapeutic approach that centers on youth in the context of the family and community.

Bilingual Clinicians in the Youth Initiatives Programs provide community-based clinical services (individual, family, and group) to low-income individuals and families with multicultural and trauma and/or family reunification backgrounds as part of a holistic intervention and prevention team consisting of case managers, mental health counselors, and program management.

This position will have a specific emphasis in working with elementary and early childhood aged clients and their caregivers, typically recently immigrated from Central America. Successful candidates are those willing to be creative, persistent, and skilled in engaging challenging clients, have experience working with similar clients, and be open to in-person services based on client need. This position functions as part of a clinical team, with support and clinical supervision as essential aspects.

This position is particularly suited for recent MSW or LPC graduates who are interested in getting experience working in an agency setting with underserved populations. Candidates would gain valuable on-the-job training in working with this population as an individual and group counselor. For those who hope to gain licensure in their field, we provide clinical supervision towards licensure and support, both individual and group. Candidates with experience and a passion for this population also welcome.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, this position will be working remotely until at least September while providing some essential services which may require occasional in-person and/or in-office work.
