AmeriCorps Ambassador of Mentoring Big Sister Association of Greater Boston Big For a Day Coordinator

Mass Mentoring Partnership AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring supports mentoring because every young person in Massachusetts deserves access to quality mentoring relationships - regardless of who they are and where they live. AOMs serve youth serving organizations across the state by strengthening mentor recruitment, matching and training; establishing community partnerships; coordinating marketing campaigns; and improving program design.
 
MA will have a vibrant and active network of mentoring and youth serving providers sharing best practices and raising their voice to advocate for youth. MMP serves more than 370 programs statewide, supporting over 30,000 youth in quality relationships.
 
Host Site Description: 
Big Sister Association of Greater Boston ignites girls’ passion and power to succeed through positive mentoring relationships with women and enrichment programs that support girls’ healthy development. We empower women and girls through a variety of gender-specific programs and opportunities focused on their unique needs. We serve more than 2600 girls between the ages of 7 and 15 in 69 towns and cities. Position Description:
 
The Ambassador of Mentoring (AOM) will manage the Big for a Day (BFAD) program where volunteers and corporate/community partners experience the power of mentoring and support a wide variety of Big Sister Boston’s programming and enrichment services. The BFAD program annually serves approximately 300 girls in the Greater Boston area, by matching them with Big for a Day Big Sisters for a one-day event. BFAD programming provides a critical service to girls who are waiting to be matched with their long-term 1:1 Big Sister mentor by giving them the opportunity to participate in enrichment programming, including STEM (science/technology/engineering/mathematics), the arts, health and fitness, college and job readiness and civic engagement. These events are sponsored by corporate/ community partners.
 
Project Responsibilities
●     Manage and improve our Big for a Day (BFAD) program, where Big Sister Association of Greater Boston hosts 1-2 events per month that match girls on the waitlist for Community-Based Mentoring with a Big Sister for the day
●     Support the growth of our 1:1 long-term mentor community by cultivating BFAD volunteers to transition to our Community- and Site-Based programs.
●     Identify and employ best practices to engage community partners, as well as volunteers who are not eligible for our 1:1 mentoring programs, in other areas of the agency such as program and fundraising events, recruitment of volunteers at their workplace or the Diversity Board
·      Commute to monthly corps-wide trainings and even
·      Participate in monthly corps-wide trainings and events
●     Complete all required monthly AAoM documentation, including evaluation reports and timesheets
 
 
Qualifications:
▪      Sensitivity to and passion for working with culturally diverse populations
▪      Detail-oriented, highly organized and flexible in a dynamic environment
▪      Passionate about Big Sister’s mission and excited to engage others in the work and vision 
▪      Demonstrated skill to take initiative including problem-solving 
▪      Excited about recruiting, on-boarding and managing Big for a Day (BFAD) mentors and stewarding relationships with community and event partners
▪      Ability to effectively plan and facilitate programming for adolescent girls and women
▪      Excited about and effective in working autonomously and within a cross-functional team 
▪      Strong communication and customer service skills
▪      Enthusiastic about learning with the ability to give and receive constructive feedback 
▪      Facility with Microsoft Office Suite
▪      Availability and flexibility to work weekday evenings and weekends on a regular basis, as well as travel to varying local venues
▪      Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien
▪      Must be willing to undergo a National Service Criminal History Check, including screenings through the National Sex Offender Public Website, a name-based search of the statewide criminal history registry and a fingerprint based FBI check. *Eligibility to participate in the AAoM program is contingent on the results of this screening
▪      BA/BS strongly preferred or equivalent experience
▪      A passion for volunteerism and community service
 
 
Position Benefits
For an eleven month, full-time commitment and 1,700 hours of AmeriCorps service Fellows receive:
·      Annual stipend of up to $15,100 (slightly more for a second year Father Monan Fellow position)
