Education Internship- Overnight Camp Counselor

The Overnight Camp Counselor is responsible for the supervision and management of campers. Counselors live in cabins with campers and provide leadership, oversight and support to the camp unit in order to ensure quality supervision and program execution. Counselors assist other staff members with planning and carrying out activities with a particular small group. These activities range from, but are not limited to: tennis, soccer, kickball, arts & crafts, dance, music, drama, archery, canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, high ropes, and zip line. Those that fill this position promote good personal relationships, teachers planned activities, and stays alert to potential health or safety concerns to campers. This position supports the leadership staff in planning and leading camp activities. Counselors ensure all supplies and program needs are available for the campers and ensures that the camp site is clean and neat when activities are over. Staff attend all staff trainings, meetings, and participates in all camp activities. They are responsible for the health and safety of all campers, interact with children at all times, and takes part in each activity in which the campers are involved. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Experience working with youth is preferred 
  • Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/ or finger printing
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with children and parents 
  • Skilled in teaching a variety of crafts, songs, stories, games, sports, aquatics, and other related activities
Working Conditions
Staff must be able to work form June 7, 2021- August 13, 2021. Overnight Counselors work from Sunday at 11am- Friday at 6:00pm living in a cabin with and supervising up to 12 campers ranging in age from 6-16 years old. Counselors are assigned 2 on camp nights off per week from 9:00pm-12:00am. Staff must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time. Counselors must be physically active and play games and sports with campers. Staff must be able to lift/ pick-up at least 35 pounds. Housing and meals are provided for the length of employment.
