Education Internship- Day Camp Counselor

The Day Camp Counselor plays a critical role in the the successful operation of the Summer Day Camp Program. They are responsible for the supervision and management of campers. Counselors assist other staff members with planning and carrying out activities with a small group of campers ranging in age from 6-13 years of age. These activities range from, but are not limited to: tennis, soccer, kickball, arts & crafts, dance, music, drama, archery, canoeing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, high ropes, and zip line. Candidates for this position promote good personal relationships, teachers planned activities, and stays alert to potential health or safety concerns to campers. Counselors ensure all supplies and program needs are available for the campers and ensures that the camp site is clean and neat when activities are over. Staff attend all staff trainings, meetings, and participates in all camp activities. They are responsible for the health and safety of all campers, interact with children at all times, and takes part in each activity in which the campers are involved. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Experience working with youth is preferred 
  • Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/ or finger printing
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with children and parents 
  • Skilled in teaching a variety of crafts, songs, stories, games, sports, aquatics, and other related activities

Working Conditions
Staff must be able to work form June 7, 2021- August 13, 2021. Day Camp Counselors days begin at 8:15am and end at 5:45 pm Monday through Friday. They must be physically active to play games and sports with campers and must be able to lift at least 35 pounds.
