American Red Cross Disaster Intern

Exciting Opportunities to support community preparedness & resiliency efforts & readiness for disaster response while developing leadership skills! 
 
Description: This Internship opportunity will focus on preparedness through coordination of community preparedness opportunities, volunteer capacity building & projects specifically geared ensure our readiness for disaster response. Interns will be able to choose their area of focus. This is an excellent opportunity to build a professional resume’, development leadership skills and engage with a diverse workforce. This internship would be a virtual opportunity at this time.
 
Interns can choose one or more areas of focus from the options below:
  • Preparedness Education: Coordination of Opportunities & Facilitation of preparedness programs
  • Community Partnerships: Support efforts to build & strengthen non-government partnerships through outreach. planning & engagement
  • Disability Integration: Establish formal/informal partnerships w/ agencies who may support our efforts to equitably serve all disaster clients. Establish a resource list that may support our efforts to serve clients with disabilities and/or functional and access needs.
  • Mass Care: Provide support to leadership & engage in projects that support capacity building & readiness within that Sheltering, Feeding & Distribution of Emergency Supplies activities.
  • Recovery Services:  Learn the casework process & provide training & support to new volunteers as they onboard into the position. Ensure a continuum of orientation. training & engagement of steady state Recovery Caseworkers.
  • Workforce Engagement:  Engage in onboarding, career pathing & placement of new disaster cycle services volunteers. Participate in call down efforts to recruit volunteers for disaster response, deployment & other events.
 
Requirements:
  • Be willing to fulfill the American Red Cross mission & reflect fundamental principles
  • Complete training requirements within 90 days for selected activities.
  • Be flexible, a self-starter & able to work virtually. 
  • Possess excellent customer service skills with comfort making phone calls & using Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook. Excel, Word & Power-Bi.
 
Training:
  • Varies in length & number of courses required, as per position
  • Most training can be completed online as self-paced web module training
 
Time Commitment:
  • 8-20 hours per week, as per Intern availability & selected position
  • Flexible scheduling availability, but, some time will be required each week between the hours of 9am-5pm for meetings & touch bases with Supervisor
  • Certain positions may be less ideal for those with limited daytime availability
 
Length of Appointment:
  • At least 3 Months, though a commitment of 6 Months or more is preferred
