Biological Laboratory Research Support Part-time

The EPA National Student Services Contract has an immediate opening for a part-time (20 hours per week) contractor position; Biophysical Research Support Part-time with the Office of Research and Development at the EPA facility in Research Triangle Park, NC. 

This is an excellent opportunity for an Undergrad student to collaborate with EPA’s research team. Research experience includes:

·       Learning and understanding all equipment in lab;

·       Evaluating data from the Laboratory scientific equipment;

·       Learning operating systems of software in the equipment in the lab; and

·       Networking and exploring many career paths at EPA.

Location: This job will be located at EPA’s facility in Research Triangle Park, NC

Salary: $18.89 per hour.

Travel: Occasional overnight travel may be required.

·       Basic knowledge of physics, chemistry and biology;

·       Evidence of taken courses in science including physics, chemistry and biology;

·       Experience in working well as part of a team;

·       Strong communication skills (i.e., written, oral, presentation abilities);

·       Experience working independently; and

·       Experience with Microsoft office.

·       Experience in laboratory research and

·       Experience in technical scientific writing and editing.

The Center for Public Health and Environmental Assessment (CPHEA) provides the science needed to understand the complex interrelationship between people and nature in support of assessments and policy to protect human health and ecological integrity. Within CPHEA, the Reproductive and Developmental Toxicology Branch (RDTB) focuses on the interrelationships between people, reproduction and their interaction of chemicals with man and animals to, promotes good human health, and fosters healthy and safe communities. RDTB scientists develop and evaluate methods and apply these methods to their research projects. The position at the EPA will use new microscopy, hyperspectral imaging and spectral flow cytometry equipment to detect and characterize particles and their effects on organisms. The data will help the EPA agency better understand and quantify exposures and their effects on public health and the environment. The CPHEA division will conducts innovative research on characterizing human and ecological exposures of cyanobacteria and microplastics. This will help the agency to understand the impacts of these exposures on both human health and environmental health.

·       Be at least 18 years of age and

·       Have at least 2 years of college with a major in biology, biophysics, chemistry, physics, environmental, health, environmental science, or other closely related field of study from an accredited university or college within the last 24 months and

·       Be a citizen of the United States of America or a Legal Permanent Resident.
