Site Director

About the organization: Project Horseshoe Farm is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that works in partnership with local elementary schools, health clinics, community centers, and nursing homes/supported housing programs to extend individualized relationship based volunteer service to help seniors, adults living with mental illness, and children. Our approach includes an educational grant supported “gap year” Service Fellowship for top recent college graduates from across the country. We were founded in 2007 with our first site in Greensboro, Alabama and have added sites in Marion, Alabama (2018) and Pomona, California (2020). Our mission is to work with and build on the strengths of local communities, improve the health and quality of life of our vulnerable neighbors, and prepare citizen service leaders for tomorrow’s communities.

Organizational values and culture:
Horseshoe Farm believes that one of the greatest underappreciated strengths in nearly all local communities is the way neighbors quietly and without seeking recognition or attention care for and support their neighbors. Horseshoe is foundationally a volunteer service and educational organization. Our organizational culture is built around neighbors helping neighbors through relationships, care, and service. We believe that service grounded in building trusting, caring, and supportive relationships with individuals within and across our differences is Horseshoe Farm’s path towards making positive change in the lives of individuals, communities, and our Fellows.

**Though we believe that activism and advocacy are important means for achieving positive change, activism and advocacy are not part of Horseshoe Farm’s culture -- we do not engage in political advocacy or activism or take positions on political issues or other causes.
