SOAR365 Summer Youth Assistant Internship

Internship Purpose and Description
SOAR365 is committed to providing fun and memorable opportunities for youth volunteers, ages 12-15 and 16-17. Each summer, we work with groups of youth volunteers, including scout troops, youth mission teams, and school service clubs who want to learn more about the work of SOAR365, engage in a variety of service and interaction opportunities, and make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities.  The Summer Youth Assistant will work with the Manager of Volunteer Engagement to supervise these youth volunteers, ensure that they have satisfying experiences, and enforce all conduct policies pertaining to youth service.
PLEASE NOTE: This is an in-person position.
Potential Service Activities:
  • Staining the picnic tables
  • Landscaping
  • Cleaning the kitchen and dining room
  • Making welcome cards and banners for campers
  • Sorting donated supplies
  • Washing and cleaning the vans
  • Sterilizing recreational equipment

Potential Interaction Activities:
  • Greeting campers & engaging in friendly conversation
  • Working together on art/craft projects
  • Providing Spa Day activities for campers (painting nails, applying facials, brushing hair, etc.)
  • Engaging together in “Field Day” recreational activities & games
 
Summer 2022 Youth Schedule (to date):
·      July 7, 21, and 28 (9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.): Second Baptist Advocacy Camps (20 youth volunteers per date)
·      July 11-15 (9:00-4:00) TENTATIVE: Youth Ambassador Camp (ages 12-15, maximum of 10 youth volunteers)
·      Aug 15-19 (9:00-4:00) TENTATIVE: Youth Ambassador Camp (ages 12-15, maximum of 10 youth volunteers)

The intern will report directly to the Manager of Volunteer Engagement or designated staff.

Requirements
The successful intern will:
·      Always demonstrate SOAR365 values
·      Serve with passion, joy, optimism, and enthusiasm
·      Be flexible and assist in whatever way possible, as appropriate, under the direction of the Supervisor
·      Take the schedule commitment seriously and strive to fulfill all expectations of the role
·      Complete all required screening steps prior to service
·      Have reliable transportation to get to Camp Baker, in Chesterfield Virginia

Time commitment
·      The Summer Youth Assistant is expected to be present for at least ONE of the above specified events (all three Second Baptist Camps OR one/both Youth Ambassador Camps OR other additional events as specified).
·      The Summer Youth Assistant is strongly encouraged to designate a minimum of four half-days when youth volunteers are not scheduled in order to observe camp activities and interactions.
