Human Rights Internship in South Africa

On this project, gain context and experience in fields such as Human Rights and Law. Help protect and promote the rights of refugees and asylum-seekers in Cape Town by promoting their access to the courts and justice systems.
- Gain insights in prevention, advocacy, victim assistance, and rehabilitation
- Receive in-depth training and insights into the local South African human rights landscape
- Get involved with tasks and initiatives that make a clear and beneficial contribution to the overall goals and mission of the organization

Getting University Credit
You may be able to gain university credit for your experience abroad. We recommend speaking to your study abroad advisor or academic department to learn more about your options. Many universities offer credit, and may classify our program as an internship, experiential education, a global experience or an academic experience, and here at Kaya we can work with you to meet any specific requirements your university may have.
Your institution may already be affiliated with Kaya to provide these credits, so ask a Kaya advisor for more details first!

Duration: 4-12 weeks (flexible)

Requirements: Age 18+
Location: Cape Town, South Africa
Working hours: Monday-Friday, 30 hours per week
What is included in those costs?
- Accommodations: single room in a house with communal spaces (wifi and laundry included)
- Airport: pick-up and drop-off from/to Cape Town International Airport
- 24-hour support
- Internship guidance and supervision
What's not included?
- Flights
- Insurance
- Visas
- Meals
- Transport to/from project
- Police/government background check: US and UK citizens will be processed through Kaya (admin fees apply); all other nationalities must provide local police check
- Routine vaccinations
- Any costs for Covid-19 PCR tests required pre-departure and in-country
