Sharing Jesus with Kids in Need - Summer Counselor

Starting salary = $3,000 over nine weeks Additional $500 bonus to all new counselors.

All summer staff members will demonstrate a growing Christian life modeling a Christ-like spirit, being able to communicate the Gospel clearly and personally, and treating everyone with dignity, gentleness and courtesy. Good judgment and emotional maturity will be shown. Each staff member will follow the social living policies, health and safety standards, and will demonstrate competency in the basic emergency procedures. A desire to work with camper-aged children and a commitment to honest and appropriate communication is a must.

General Responsibilities:

The core of the Counselor position is building loving relationships with campers. Counselors and co-counselors are responsible for 8-10 campers, setting the pace for a faith-building and fun experience together as a group. The counselors’ responsibilities include:
1. Caring for campers’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs
2. Upholding rules, policies, and common courtesies personally and for campers
3. Offering loving and appropriate discipline for the wellbeing of the campers and staff
4. Serving as a role model to campers
5. Leading or assisting recreational small group activities
6. Internalizing and teaching the camp’s spiritual curriculum including memory verses, small group bible lessons, and teachable experiences throughout the day
7. Explaining God’s plan for Salvation in an excited and inviting manner, giving opportunities for campers to make new or renewed commitments to Jesus Christ
8. Engaging with campers and encouraging participation in activities
9. Participating in cabin group activities to create shared experiences—the building block of relationship where you can comfortably share Jesus Christ
10. Developing positive and supportive relationships with other staff members, treating others as you would like to be treated
11. Maintaining open communication and working as a team with leaders and other staff—attending meetings, sharing feelings and thoughts in appropriate ways, becoming part of the growth and improvement of the ministry
12. Performing other camp responsibilities as assigned
