Job Summary 
 
The Supervisor of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) will collaborate with administrators, teachers, and students to plan, organize, and promote interdisciplinary STEM activities and expanded learning opportunities through the integration of successful strategies and multiple technologies. This position will also promote high-tech learning, which will ensure that students gain the necessary edge to compete and succeed in the global economy. Emphasis of all ongoing technology instruction will be in strengthening content learning while utilizing technology to differentiate and enhance student learning.
 
Essential Duties 
 
  • Articulates curriculum standards, emphasis, and guidelines to teachers and the school community. 
 
  • Works collaboratively with the Supervisor of Professional Learning to offer professional development programs that promote effective STEM instruction. 
 
  • Provides feedback to administrators and teachers concerning classroom observations and STEM instruction. (ie,Coding, computer science standards)
 
  • Actively participates in the analysis of student achievement data and utilizes this information to assist in the instructional planning for the division.
 
  • Conducts analyses of instructional programs and materials to assure that coursework effectively promotes student learning.
 
  • Supports the division’s Strategic Plan for STEM and for preparing learners for future success.
 
  • Serves on the board of the STEM Academy at Central Virginia Community College (CVCC).
 
  • Serves as the division liaison for Central Virginia Governor’s School (CVGS) and Roanoke Valley Governor’s School (RVGS).
 
  • Prepares reports and compiles data as required by the State Department of Education.
 
  • Assumes the role of researcher and facilitator for disseminating information about instructional practices and innovative STEM learning spaces to teachers and administrators. 
 
  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. 
 
  • Initiates and maintains effective liaisons with professional societies to keep abreast of developments and research in the profession. 
 
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required
 
Requires a Master’s degree and a Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in math and/or science and Administration and Supervision and five (5) years of teaching experience. Experience as a school principal or assistant principal preferred. An in-depth knowledge of math and/or science curriculum and instructional best practices is also required. Must demonstrate effective instructional delivery techniques and the ability to guide and train teachers in effective techniques and strategies. Excellent organizational and communication skills are required. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, administrators, community, students and others. Must be Google Level 1 certified or the technology equivalent at the time of hiring.
