NGO Development Internships in Thailand

Spend Time Abroad in Chiang Mai Completing an Internship!

All About the Internship

We have two amazing NGO Development Internships in Thailand. Both will provide you with insight into global development issues and NGO operations in an international context. Be a part of the bigger picture as you assist NGOs with their valuable work!

LGBTQ+ NGO Development
While Thailand is more accepting than most other countries around the world, the LGBTQ+ community faces discrimination. There are no rights for those in same sex marriages and prejudice at schools and in the workplace is widespread. In Chiang Mai, there are large numbers of transgender men and women as well as sex workers and other at-risk groups, and HIV rates have been on the rise. This organization promotes local initiatives through advocacy and education.

The NGO staff promotes inclusion through education and offers testing and counseling at schools, spas, saunas and bars. The aim is to improve acceptance by others, encourage safe sex practices, and reduce teenage pregnancy in the process. Rights and safe sex messages are important to the organization and activities include HIV/AIDS outreach, education, treatment and prevention as well as advocacy. Join us and make a contribution to the LGBTQ+ community and other at-risk groups in the city of Chiang Mai.

General NGO Development
At Kaya, we partner with a number of NGOs in Northern Thailand that could use support. This second internship option involves NGOs that tackle a wide variety of initiatives ranging from care for the elderly to children's rights. If you have a specific field that you're interested in, please reach out to one of our Placement Advisors and we can discuss the available options.

This internship allows students to gain insight into the workings of an NGO in the context of Thai culture. Not only will you learn about some of the key tasks and challenges facing NGOs in Chiang Mai, you will also gain an understanding of how funding is an important part of the picture. Strong English speakers are of great benefit to these local NGOs, who need help with research, report preparation and online and social media marketing. Particularly valuable skills including strong English language and writing skills!

Getting University Credit

You may be able to gain university credit for your experience abroad. We recommend speaking to your study abroad advisor or academic department to learn more about your options. Many universities offer credit, and may classify our program as an internship, experiential education, a global experience or an academic experience, and here at Kaya we can work with you to meet any specific requirements your university may have.

Your institution may already be affiliated with Kaya to provide these credits, so ask a Kaya advisor for more details first!
