The intern’s job is to help improve communication efforts and engage donors by creating social media and blog posts, taking photos and videos, and gathering stories. The intern also provides support to the Daraja staff, edits and manages the student newspaper, and acts as a mentor for the girls.

• Excellent writing skills
• Fluent in English (can communicate in the cadence of American English)
• Outgoing and sociable
• Firm understanding of social media applications such as Facebook
• Flexible personality and positive, helpful attitude
• Able to juggle multiple tasks at once
• College graduate
• Preferred: international experience, familiarity with photography and video editing, and social media marketing experience.

Compensation
Thanks to the generosity of donations made in memory of Allyson Clark, interns receive free room and board, a roundtrip flight, and a $500 stipend.

You should know
Daraja is located in a remote area and access to transportation is somewhat limited. Living conditions are best described as rustic, and interns should be prepared to experience life “in the bush.” However, interns have plenty of access to restaurants, safaris, and other cultural excursions. Interns will pay for travel and souvenirs, but our volunteer coordinator will help plan and schedule any non-work trips for free.

We also have connections to other non-profits near Nanyuki for interns who wish to spend additional time volunteering or gaining further experience. Global Platform has a base on our campus that often houses about 20 volunteers, which can provide an opportunity for an expanded social life.

Additional Questions can be directed to Daraja's Deputy Director, Geeta Tate, geeta@daraja.org

*We will keep this post open until we find the right candidate.
