Sleep Away Counselor

Camp High Hopes, a camp for children, teens, and adults with disabilities in Sioux City, IA, seeks camper-focused, compassionate summer staff interested in helping to facilitate a safe, fun, and fulfilling summer experience for campers of all ages. Our summer staff helps further the camp’s mission to provide a safe, fun, and adaptive recreational experience for people with disabilities through daily interactions with campers in our Day Camp and Sleep-Away (Overnight) sessions. Camp staff are the primary caregivers for campers with disabilities by providing needed personal care assistance and activity adaptation. 
Sleep Away Counselor:

Primary caregiver for campers with disabilities in the sleep‐away program. Includes personal care assistance, activity adaptation, and behavior management. Reside in cabin with assigned campers and a co‐counselor. June 12 - August 12, 2016; $300/per week + room & board (live-onsite position).
A summer at Camp High Hopes provides the opportunity for college students and young adults to gain vital job skills and experience, while growing personally and professionally. Positions include: Sleep-Away Counselors, Activity Leaders, Lifeguards, and Day Camp Counselors. Prior experience at camp and caring for people with disabilities is desired, but not required. 
Weekday, weekend, evening, and overnight work is to be expected. Compensation and housing are dependent on position and experience.
