Legislative Internship Opportunity with the Vermont Chamber of Commerce

Please apply by sending your cover letter, resume, and any further inquiries to Jeremy Little,  jlittle@vtchamber.com, by October 29th, 2026.

The Vermont Chamber of Commerce is seeking qualified interns to join its Government Affairs team during the 2027 legislative session. This is an exciting opportunity to report on, witness, and learn more about new policy initiatives as they move through the legislative process.

Interns will assist the Vermont Chamber’s advocacy staff by monitoring hearings in person and virtually at the Vermont State House, and will synthesize and report on committee proceedings, including accurate summaries of committee conversation and witness testimony. Throughout the session, interns may be assigned specific committees, bills, or policy issues based on the needs of the Vermont Chamber and the intern's interests and experience.

Further responsibilities include:

  • Utilizing AI tools as assigned by the internship coordinator to report on additional legislative hearings and to improve staff efficiency
  • Providing assistance with additional Government Affairs projects and special assignments as needed, which may include conducting research and drafting bill summaries or other documents for the Vermont Chamber to help inform our stakeholders.

This internship is ideal for students with a strong interest in policymaking and politics. A diplomatic and proactive mindset is essential. Additionally, during time at the Vermont State House interns will develop a practical understanding of Vermont's legislative process and policymaking, strengthen policy analysis and professional writing skills, observe advocacy in action on issues affecting Vermont's business community, and build professional relationships with legislators, administration officials, lobbyists, business leaders, and other policy professionals.

Interns receive a monetary stipend for their participation. The Vermont State Legislature meets Tuesday through Friday from January through early May. Interns are expected to work at the State House in Montpelier at least one day each week to develop relationships and experience policy in person. Additional hours will be available on a schedule which recognizes the availability of the student intern and, where applicable, the requirements of their academic institution for internship credit.
