EMS Assistant

About the Role

SB Custom Fitness is a boutique EMS (Electro Muscle Stimulation) training studio in Santa Barbara. We're looking for a reliable, hands-on EMS Assistant to support our instructor before, during, and after group training sessions. This role is based primarily at our studio at 4410 Hollister Ave, with some sessions held at other locations we host classes at.

This is a support role, not a coaching role — you won't be teaching or leading sessions. Instead, you'll be the person who keeps the studio running smoothly behind the scenes, learning the foundations of EMS training along the way. It's a great entry point into the fitness industry and into EMS specifically, with room to grow as SB Custom Fitness grows.

This role is a great fit for anyone with a passion for fitness or an interest in EMS as a tool — EMS is heavily used in the medical and physical therapy world, and this is a chance to get hands-on exposure to that technology.

What You'll Do

  • Open the studio
  • Suit up clients in EMS gear before sessions
  • Set out suit sizes for clients
  • Spray, wipe down, and sanitize equipment between and after sessions
  • Clean and sanitize suits
  • Fold and stock towels
  • Add notes to client profiles/records
  • Assist with client scheduling
  • Vacuum and do light cleaning of the studio
  • Support the EMS instructor with as many session set-up and break-down tasks as possible
  • Follow the studio's opening and closing checklists

What We're Looking For

  • Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable with hands-on, physical tasks and being on your feet
  • Hospitality mindset — warm, cordial, and welcoming with clients, with the ability to build genuine rapport
  • Friendly and comfortable interacting with clients
  • Neat in appearance and professional in manner
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills
  • Able to follow checklists and routines consistently
  • No fitness or EMS experience required — we'll teach you the foundations
  • Interest in fitness or the EMS space is a plus

Compensation & Perks

  • $20 per hour
  • Assistants can work extra hours to pay for EMS sessions (2 hours for every EMS session), or use a friends & family rate (50% off) for EMS sessions
  • Hands-on exposure to EMS technology and studio operations
  • Opportunity to grow within SB Custom Fitness, including developing toward and applying for an EMS Trainer/Instructor role

Scheduling & Availability

  • Assistants submit their availability on a bi-weekly basis; schedules are then confirmed based on submitted availability
  • Minimum 5 hours per week, maximum 30 hours per week
  • Once confirmed, schedule changes require 2 weeks’ notice, or the assistant may arrange for another assistant to cover their shift
  • Scheduling hours are between 5am–7pm, Monday–Sunday

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand for extended periods, move around the studio frequently, and perform light physical tasks such as lifting/moving equipment, cleaning, and assisting clients in and out of gear.
