Graphic Design Intern: The Autoimmune Decade Launch
Part-time, [10 to 15] hrs/week · [Los Angeles area preferred, remote considered] · $20+/hour, depending on experience · Now through January 2027
About us
The Autoimmune Fund is a venture fund dedicated exclusively to autoimmune and immune-mediated disease. Our annual report, The Autoimmune Decade, publishes in December 2026 and launches during JPM Healthcare Week in January 2027. We need a designer to make people notice it.
What you’ll make
- Launch campaign. A LinkedIn-first social series: teasers, finding cards, carousels, and event graphics for JPM week.
- Fund infographics. Turn our findings into visuals people share, not charts for slides.
- Science visuals. Clear, accurate, original images that explain immunology to investors and patients.
How you’ll work
The founder sets the story for each piece. You find the idea and design it. Our creative director reviews and finishes it. You work inside a brand system, and every number comes from our verified research.
You have
- A portfolio that shows original ideas, not just clean execution. Campaign, editorial, illustration, or motion work all count.
- Fluency in Figma and/or Adobe Illustrator
- The ability to take feedback and revise fast
- Plus: a biology, health, or science background, or experience in medical or scientific illustration
How to apply
Send your portfolio, resume, and response to the prompt below to bonnie@autoimmune.fund with the subject line “Design Intern: [Your Name].” Applications without the prompt will not be reviewed.
The Prompt
The Autoimmune Decade puts a price on autoimmune disease. It launches in January 2027. Most people scroll past the word “autoimmune.” Your job is to make them stop.
1. Find the idea.
Sketch three different campaign directions for the launch. Rough is fine: a line, a visual, a thumbnail each. Pick one and tell us in three sentences why it wins.
2. Make the hero post.
Using your chosen direction, design one finished LinkedIn post (1080 x 1350) built around one of these two facts:
- From 2014 to 2025, of $40.0 billion in venture capital invested in autoimmune and immune-mediated disease, 94% went to drug therapeutics. Everything else (diagnosis, prediction, devices, care) shared 6%.
- Women with lupus wait about twice as long as men to be diagnosed: a median of 29.6 months, compared with 14.1 months.
3. Explain the science your way.
In autoimmune disease, the immune system mistakes the body’s own tissue for a threat. Invent a visual metaphor for that. Show two or three rough options, then finish the one you’d carry forward. In two sentences, tell us where your metaphor breaks down. Every metaphor does somewhere; we want to know you can see it.
Rules
- Original work only. No AI-generated imagery, no stock or downloaded icons.
- Start from our palette: dark green #213E3B, teal #42AA8B, light teal #97D5C2, off-white #F8F8F8. Push it if your idea needs it, and tell us why.
- Bold idea, disciplined execution. US spelling, no em dashes.
Send everything as one PDF. We care more about your thinking than your polish, so include your sketches.
