Reports to KSR Director

You'll spend Friday afternoon each week in a Selma classroom, leading students through hands-on robotics: building, coding, and problem-solving. It's real teaching, with KSR's curriculum, equipment, and training behind you the whole way.

About KSR

Knuckle Sandwich Robotics, Inc. (KSR) is an Alabama nonprofit that runs robotics programs, camps, and after-school clubs across Alabama. KSR programs have reached 30+ schools and 1,200+ students this past year. KSR Discover is where it starts: students build, program, and discover all in one session, watching their own creation come to life, often using snap-together LEGO or VEX robotics products.

About the Role

This is a weekly, non-competitive robotics club: students build, code, and run challenges using KSR's curriculum and teaching-grade robotics kits, often LEGO or VEX snap-together builds. A Selma Area Schools staff member is in the room for every session. Success 10 weeks in looks like a room full of students who look forward to Fridays, and a teacher who has picked up real robotics-instruction skills alongside them.

What You'll Do

• Lead the weekly Friday session start to finish: setup, a short mini-lesson, guided build-and-code time, a challenge or showcase, and teardown
• Deliver KSR's curriculum as the foundation for each session, adjusting pace and activities on the fly to fit the group. Improvising to meet the classroom where it is, is expected and encouraged
• Keep a simple attendance and session log. Flag any equipment issues back to KSR, and report behavior issues to school personnel on site right away
• Work alongside the Selma Area Schools staff member present each session to keep things running smoothly and safely
• Care for KSR's equipment: kits, teaching robots, and challenge materials travel to and from the session and get checked against an inventory list
• Communicate proactively with KSR staff if support is needed

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Currently enrolled in college, or a recent graduate (education, engineering, computer science, or a related field is a plus, but not required)
• Comfortable working with elementary and middle school students, and willing to learn and follow a structured curriculum
• Reliable transportation to the Selma campus on Friday afternoons
• Able to pass a background check before working with students

Preferred (nice to have):

• Prior experience with VEX or LEGO robotics, coding, or engineering coursework
• Experience tutoring, coaching, babysitting, camp counseling, or otherwise working with kids
• Based in or near Selma, including students at Wallace Community College Selma

Compensation & Schedule

Pay is per the rate above, for the 2 paid hours of each Friday session. Paid onboarding and training hours are provided before your first solo session. This is a part-time, hourly, non-benefits-eligible position, staffed through KSR. The 10-week fall term is the immediate commitment; KSR is actively growing this kind of weekly community program, and there is a real path to more weeks, more hours, or a role on KSR's expanding regional team for the right person.
