This position is in the classified civil service. The Laboratory Assistant position is included in a voluntary recognition bargaining unit (union), which may include union dues. This position is located in the Drug Testing Laboratory of the Common Pleas Court's Probation Department and is responsible for the direct observation and collection of urine specimens from defendants for illegal drugs and/or alcohol. Specimens are obtained from Probation Department clients and outside agencies. This position works closely with the Laboratory Manager to ensure that strict adherence to laboratory protocols, policies, and procedures are maintained.

What you'll do

- Directly observe and collect urine specimens from defendants and probation clients for drug and/or alcohol testing. - Process and handle specimens according to strict chain-of-custody and laboratory protocols. - Work with outside agencies to obtain specimens as required. - Maintain accurate records and documentation related to specimen collection and testing. - Follow all laboratory policies and procedures to ensure integrity of test results. - Collaborate closely with the Laboratory Manager to uphold standards and compliance. - Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.

Nice to have

- Prior experience in specimen collection, phlebotomy, or a laboratory setting. - Familiarity with drug and alcohol testing procedures. - Experience working in a criminal justice, probation, or government agency context.
