About STEM Educator Initiative
STEM Educator Initiative (SEI) is a nonprofit organization that partners with educators, schools, and educational organizations to strengthen STEM and career and technical education (CTE). Through research-informed professional learning, technical assistance, and practical tools, SEI helps educators create effective learning environments that are engaging, empowering, interconnected, and relevant to students.
Our work is grounded in the NEIR® Framework: Normalize, Empower, Interconnect, and Relevant. SEI provides consultants with the content, materials, and preparation needed to effectively facilitate NEIR-based professional learning.
About the Role
SEI is building a network of Professional Learning Consultants who can support the delivery of professional development for educators throughout Pennsylvania.
This is an as-needed consulting position rather than a set weekly schedule. Consultants will be contacted when professional learning opportunities arise in or near their geographic area and will typically facilitate sessions alongside or in coordination with SEI staff.
SEI will provide the professional learning curriculum, presentation materials, activities, and resources. Consultants will also receive preparation and support in understanding the NEIR Framework and SEI's approach to professional learning.
Consultants are compensated for approved preparation time, professional development delivery, and follow-up work.
What You'll Do
- Facilitate engaging professional learning experiences for STEM, science, engineering, and/or CTE educators.
- Deliver SEI-developed NEIR professional learning content and activities.
- Prepare for sessions by reviewing provided materials and collaborating with SEI staff.
- Facilitate conversations, reflection, and collaborative activities with educators.
- Use a coaching mindset to help educators examine their learning environments and identify practical opportunities for improvement.
- Work collaboratively with SEI staff before, during, and after professional learning sessions.
- Complete brief follow-up activities or feedback as needed after sessions.
- Represent SEI professionally when working with schools, educators, and partner organizations.
Who We're Looking For
We are especially interested in individuals who:
- Have experience in education, STEM, science, engineering, CTE, instructional coaching, professional learning, or a related field.
- Enjoy working with educators and facilitating conversations with adult learners.
- Are interested in coaching, mentoring, and supporting educator growth.
- Are comfortable presenting and facilitating activities with groups.
- Can learn new content and deliver it effectively while maintaining the intent of the provided materials.
- Are collaborative, dependable, flexible, and comfortable receiving feedback.
- Believe professional learning should be practical, engaging, and connected to educators' real classroom experiences.
- Are located in or able to regularly travel within the Pittsburgh or Erie, Pennsylvania regions.
Previous experience delivering professional development is valuable but is not required. We are also interested in educators, former educators, graduate students, instructional coaches, STEM professionals with education experience, and others who demonstrate strong facilitation potential.
What SEI Provides
Consultants will not be expected to develop professional learning programs from scratch. SEI provides:
- NEIR Framework training and preparation
- Professional learning curriculum and facilitator materials
- Presentation slides and participant resources
- Activities and implementation guidance
- Support from SEI staff before and during engagements
- Compensation for approved preparation, delivery, and follow-up time
Schedule & Travel
This position does not have guaranteed weekly hours. Opportunities will vary based on SEI's professional learning schedule and partner needs.
Professional learning may take place during the school day, after school, or occasionally as part of conferences or other educator events. Some travel within the consultant's region may be required.
Why Work With SEI?
This role is an opportunity to work directly with educators while helping strengthen STEM and CTE learning environments across Pennsylvania. It is especially well suited for someone who enjoys facilitating, coaching, connecting with educators, and helping translate research and ideas into practical classroom strategies.
